Bronze Medallion

Prior to becoming a Surf Lifesaver you must complete your Bronze Medallion. Over an 8 week course, you will be provided with the skills and knowledge to be able to participate in Life Saving operations and join a patrol team at North Curl Curl Beach. At the completion of your course you will have gained a nationally recognised qualification (Certificate I in Public Safety – Aquatic Rescue). The Bronze Medallion program includes: Safety and wellbeing, Surf awareness and skills, The human body, Resuscitation, Defibrillation and basic oxygen techniques, First aid, Communications, Radio operations, Rescue techniques, Carries and support, Beach management.

Course Structure & Duration

Duration: Approximately 8 weeks with weekly sessions. Please wear clothes suitable for water activities and bring goggles etc for swimming.  You must be at least 15 years of age to complete your Bronze Medallion.

Course Syllabus (Bronze Medallion).

Prerequisite Swim:

The prerequisite pool swim requires participants to swim 400m in nine (9) minutes or less. This swim will be conducted prior to enrolment in the course.   Surf Life Saving Australia regulations require all members in training for the Bronze Medallion to wear a fluoro rash vest when training in the ocean. This vest can be fluoro yellow, green, pink or red.

Bronze Medallion (Summer) Feb/March 2020 Course
Registration/Orientation/Proficiency Swim Sunday 9th February 200 -500pm
Course Dates Saturday 9th February to Saturday 28th March
Timetable Sunday afternoons from 200-500pm for 8 weeks. Provide First aid on Saturday 14th March
Training times may vary each week dependent on conditions
Assessment Thursday 26th March 6pm Dee Why (DRY) and Saturday 28th March 9am at Dee Why (WET)

Cost $300 New Seniors, $150 New Juniors, $50 Existing patrolling SRC upgrading, $150 Nipper parents

Timetable Saturday Mornings 10am – 1230pm and Sunday afternoons 200 – 500pm for approx 5 weeks. Training times May vary – TBC
