Surf to Shore – Thursday 18th January 2024

Hi Members, Happy New Year!

Here’s to 2024 being everything you all are hoping it will be!

A big thanks to all our Patrol members who looked after our beach throughout the Xmas/NY period, especially those who volunteered on Christmas day.

January is the peak time for our Patrols and also our Nippers and Seniors Surf Sports competitors.

On Friday, 5/1, we had our annual Vivid Property Services golf day organised by Dave, Alex, and Lachy. A big thanks to all the hard work you have put in, and also thanks to everyone who played and supported our club.

Last weekend, our Boat Crews featured at the North Steyne Carnival with Open Men’s and Women, Reserve Men, and U23 Men in action. Further South at Manly on Sunday, our Nippers were in action at the Nipper Nats carnival, both on the beach and in water, with lots of great results and personal firsts achieved by many.

Thanks to all our patrolling members on duty this weekend!

See you on the beach or in the surf.

We will be having several training courses happening after Christmas. The following courses are being arranged and dates will be confirmed this week:

Bronze Medallion Course
This course will commence on the 29th of January, Few spots remaining, please talk to your friends and Nipper parents about doing the course. It is vital for the Nippers to have water safety out there when our younger members are training and competing, and the Bronze will qualify parents to assist in this vital role.

IRB Crew Course
This course will start on 24th January, 2024. Click here, for more information about the course

First Aid
This year we will be holding several first aid courses at the club. These courses are for a nationally approved first aid for use not only on the beach but also the workplace. For members wishing to upgrade their Advanced Resuscitation qualifications the first aid is the first step and holding a first aid certificate will also be able to be used towards the Bronze Medallion emergency care portion of the course. We will be holding a course on the 25th February, with times to be confirmed, there are a few spots remaining so email Tony to secure a seat.

2024 has started with a bang, training has kicked in and carnivals are ramping up as we start to see the end of the season nearing.
Last week our surf sports team competing in multiple events including the Interstate championships, Super Surf Teams League, Nippers at Nipper Nats andBoats at North Steyne.

Interstate Championships

Last Thursday North Curly was represented at the Interstate Championships by Jack Stewart in the NSW Pathways team and Luke Higgs in the NSW Youth team. Both of these teams were successful in winning the championships with NSW also winning the overall point score beating their rivals QLD. Both Jack and Luke had some great results. Luke was 1st in the Surf Race and 7th in the Iron as well as playing a big role in winning the mixed board relay and mixed surf team. Jack had a 10th in the surf race, 5th in the Ironman and also took part in the pathways team events achieving a 2nd in the Mixed Surf Team. Congratulations to both boys on a successful interstate! championships.

Super Surf Teams League

Super Surf Teams League was held last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This event sees 17 teams across Australia compete in 3 separate rounds. NCC was represented by Ash Windsham who was representing the NSW Rays team. Ash was selected as the female board paddler for the team, and had 2  3rd place and a 2nd across the 3 rounds in the Open Female Board. She then also combined with the whole NSW Rays team to win the 8 person Ocean M relay in the first round and win the mixed board relay in round 2 pairing with Harrison Stone from Manly. NSW rays were narrowly edged out of reaching the podium finishing 4 th overall. Congratulations to Ash on a strong performance stepping up into the open arena.

Nipper Nats

On Sunday our junior competitors converged on Manly beach to compete in the Annual Nipper Nats carnival, which sees competitors from around Australia compete in one of the biggest junior carnival of the season. NCC has a team of 66 kids from Under 9s to Under 14s competing in both beach and water events. The surf conditions were challenging and the competition on the beach was hot. NCC had a lot of great performances and finished with a 6 th place on the point score. This carnival was a great opportunity for the coaching team to see where the kids are at and areas of focus moving forward as we prepare for the Branch and State Championships.

As always a huge thank you must go to our Officials and Water Safety that allow us to compete at these carnivals.
