Surf to Shore – 26th April 2024

Hi Members,

As we head into our last weekend of patrolling for this summer, I wish to sincerely thank every member who has patrolled on our beach this season, helping to keep the users of our beach safe between our “red & yellow”.

It has been a very busy patrolling season as has been highlighted by our Director of Lifesaving , Carmel Howard with numerous rescues and first aids.

We have invested significantly in the latest rescue equipment e.g.

It’s this continued investment and generous support from our sponsors which give our Patrolling members the confidence that they have the best equipment to do their job.

REMEMBER  – Patrol Thankyou BBQ and IRB / ATV christening for all patrol members and their families is this Sunday starting 1:30pm – please come down and enjoy a beautiful Brazilian BBQ

Aussies 2024

A massive week of competition for our members up on the Sunshine Coast, the highest of highs and plenty of lows the carnivals were held in very tough water conditions 6ft and bigger sets with water moving everywhere- think of SCC on a bad day and triple it!

Our members handled these conditions very well and it’s these same members in the majority who also patrol our beach (luckily the sand was fine and dry for our beachies)

Highlights

Gold – Jack Stewart u15 Ironman
Gold – Joce Melbourn u13 Female Swim
Gold – Luke Higgs , Sam Higgs, Sam Davis , Braith Howison u17 Male Swim team
Gold – Andrew Stewart 60-64 1km beach run

Silver – Luke Higgs u17 Male Ironman

Bronze- Sam Higgs u17 Male Ironman
Bronze – Sam Davis, Braith Howison, Luke Higgs u17 Male taplin relay
Bronze – Harrison Wagland, Ollie Sanbrook – u14/u15 Male 2x1km run
Bronze – Aria Girven, Ruby Koopman – u14/u15 Female 2 x 1km run

Semi-Finals – Mens Open Surf Boat – Chris Mckinnon, Harrison Selby, Jay Yeomans, Jason Rowe and Shaun Stacey

In addition there were many finalists and near misses for the podium, plenty of disappointment as races didn’t go to plan, some heartbreak through injuries and some fantastic demonstrations of team spirit (Ash Windsham racing on one leg after suffering an injury in the ski, just so her teammates could continue to race) and this is what competing at Aussies is all about!

As President of our club I could not be prouder of all our competitors, coaches, team managers, officials, parents and supporters who represented North Curly so well on the big stage at Aussies – my thanks and appreciation goes to every single one of you… and a special “shout out” to Brad Higgs Director of Surf Sports for always keeping a cool head and making sure everything ran smoothly!

Thanks to all our members from Nippers to our Life members  and our Board members for such a fantastic 101st season.

See you in the surf or on the beach
