North Curl Curl SLSC introduced a Special Needs Nippers program for children from U5 – U14
The modified program runs right before our normal Nippers program, from 8am to 10am am on a Sunday. It provides activities such as:
- Promoting and teaching sun/ surf safety and surf awareness skills
- Surf Lifesaving based activities for children with intellectual and physical disabilities
- Access to a leisure activity that may not have been previously available
As well as normal Nipper activities such as:
- Beach and sand events
- Wade and swim races.
Ripper Nippers is all about the children having fun in a safe environment, learning new social skills and integrating with the broader community outside of their existing circle of friends, family and carers.
The Rippers Nippers are supported by volunteers from North Curl Curl Surf Lifesaving Club, however family members are actively encouraged to participate with their child, so everyone has the opportunity to share in the excitement as each member masters new skills throughout the season.
North Curl Curl encourages members of ‘Rippers’ to join in their age mainstream group if they wish and are welcome to participate in both groups. Our main focus is to make sure members are actively learning whilst having fun!
