SURF TO SHORE – THURSDAY 15TH FEBRUARY 2024
The past 2 weekend of patrols have been very challenging with large surf pounding our beach resulting in multiple closures.
Two Friday evenings ago (after patrol hrs) it was fantastic to see the local surf community combine with our members to carry out a mass rescue of 4 swimmers in fast moving and ugly water. Then the next day, Saturday, our patrols were very busy with a number of preventive actions and rescues. More of the same last weekend with large surf again, keeping our patrols on edge. Such challenging conditions very much rely on our Patrol Captains leading the way and working hand in hand with our Council Lifeguards.
100 Year book – the book is with the printer and I will provide and update when final delivery is confirmed.
Last Saturday our Senior Surf Sports Water team competed at the North Bondi Summer of Surf Carnival with some very credible results (see wrap up further in newsletter) whilst on Sunday the Northern Beaches Branch Championships kicked off Newport with the Beach events. Our very small Masters Beach team finished a creditable 5th,whilst our Nippers beach team did a fantastic job winning the overall beach point score. Congrats to everyone involved, competitors, age managers, parents and especially the Coaches!
Branch champs continue this weekend with Open & Masters Water events this Saturday and Nippers Waters events on Sunday…wishing everybody representing NCC this weekend the very best of luck!
To our patrolling members rostered on this weekend…thank you all so much for giving up your time to keep our beach safe.
See you on the beach or in the Surf

LIFESAVING
It’s been a wild few weekends on the beach, with big surf and beach closures, and it was disappointing to see the carnival cancelled. On the other hand, we enjoyed some constructive tidy-ups and epic cricket matches on the sand last weekend – thanks everyone.

SURF SPORTS
The last couple of weeks have been a busy time for our Surf Sports competitors.
The Next Gen series was held at Kurrawa over 3 days in early Feb. This series is held for the Under 19 age group and the series has 3 different formats across the 3 days – Enduro, Specialist and Survival. NCC was represented by Ash Windsham. After 3 hot and tough days of racing Ash finished in 5th overall.
The senior water team then travelled to North Bondi for another round of the Summer of Surf Series. The conditions were tough and the team encountered 4 seasons in 1 day from high winds to sideways rain to then the sun coming out and becoming burning hot. The racing was also hot. The team came away with some great results with many making finals. Luke Higgs was 1st in the Under 17 surf race and the Under 17 Male Taplin finished out the day on the podium with a second. The team now looks ahead to the final 2 rounds being held at Northcliffe in a couple of weeks.
The Surf Life Saving Sydney Northern Beaches Branch Championships kicked off last weekend with the Opens, Masters and Juniors Beach events. Congratulations to the whole team who competed. Our senior team of Oliver Sanbrook and Harrison Wagland finished 2nd on the pointscore. Great effort from a small team of 2. On Sunday our mighty junior beach team continued their success finishing on top of the pointscore with 287 points 57 points in front of second place. In some events NCC took out the whole podium and some even with top 5 positions.
This coming weekend the championships continue with Senior and Masters water events on Saturday and Junior water on Sunday. Good Luck to all competing and we look forward to seeing pics from the beach.
