For Christmas 2015, the club took a squad of youngsters over to New Zealand to stay with the Omanu & the Mount Maunganui surf clubs in the Bay of Plenty area. Subsequently the Omanu club took up our invitation of a reciprocal visit, and sent a squad of 12 kids aged 10 to 14 to stay & train with North Curly kids for the start of the new year.
The kids were all billeted with families from our club and they had a jam-packed week of training & sight seeing (although with the “Cluesy flogging” style of training. “Gosh – you train a lot harder than we do at home!” was commonly heard from Kiwi kids and parents! Their visit concluded with them participating in the Narrabeen Junior Carnival as a club and combining with us in some team events. The visit was extremely successful with plenty of strong friendships formed. We look forward to returning there next year.
